ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) pack
This ESOL lesson plan focuses on the key messages around TB; raising awareness of symptoms and early presentation to a GP. The teaching pack was designed and written by an experienced ESOL teacher in partnership with a TB nurse, and a public health specialist. The lesson uses a number of different teaching techniques, such as practical work, discussion, question and answer and short written tests. The pack consists of:
- A story book starring Raju – a young Nepalese man who develops TB. The story follows him as he is diagnosed, treated and eventually cured.
- A lesson plan with teacher’s notes
- Comprehension questions for students, including a ‘word search’ puzzle and ‘right or wrong’ questions.
- An exercise involving putting events in the
correct chronological order - A Power Point presentation to structure the lesson
