Healthy Schools London Award

Schools can help children learn about their health, and develop their motivation and self respect to make healthy choices. We also know that when children are healthy and happy at school, they can achieve more.

Healthy Schools London is a programme that will help schools to go further, and get more schools involved.

The Healthy Schools scheme is sponsored by the Mayor of London. It recognises and celebrates schools that are making a difference for their pupils.

There are three levels of award:

64 schools have registered for the Healthy Schools Award in Greenwich. 27 of these have achieved bronze award, 19 silver and 5 have achieved the gold award. So if you are interested in registering your Greenwich school for an award, please visit the website for more details.


Food in Schools Training

Royal Greenwich Public Health offer a collection of training sessions for all teaching staff in the borough. The training covers cooking, food growing and farming, with a focus on the importance of improving food education in schools and ensuring pupils can learn to cook and spend time learning outdoors across the school year.

Schools who have joined Healthy Schools London, are part of the Food for Life award, or are just beginning their journey to improve food in school are welcome to attend. All sessions are free and take place once a term.

Growing Skills training: guidance on establishing growing areas in schools and how to link growing to curriculum topics
Wednesday 11th March, 10am – 1.00pm, Clockhouse Community Centre, Defiance Walk, Woolwich Dockyard, SE18 5QL

Farm Links training: planning effective farm visits and identifying curriculum links
Monday 27th April, 9.30am – 12.00pm, Woodlands Farm, 331 Shooters Hill, DA16 3RP
