Funding for communities

Community Voting Days

On Saturday 5th and Saturday 12th July, communities in three areas of the borough took part in their own Community Voting Day to vote for the projects they want to see funded to help improve the health and wellbeing in their area.

Community Voting Days, also known as participatory budgeting, is a democratic process where community members directly decide how to allocate part of a public budget. It involves community planning and decision-making, and ends in a Community Voting Day where you can vote on projects you think will benefit your community.

Working together as neighbourhoods

Residents and community organisations in Plumstead & Glyndon, Blackheath & Charlton and Middle Park & Horn Park came together in their respective areas for three lively and inspiring Community Voting Day events. We had 94 voters and over 100 attendees attend over the three events.

Community leaders set the priorities for the funding that included:

  • social and community connection
  • physical activity
  • mental health and wellbeing
  • built environment
  • raise awareness or improve access to local support and services
  • food

Projects could bid for up to £1,000.

We worked with grass-roots organisations to support them with developing their ideas, on the application process, and presentation skills.

Facts & figures

We had 46 applications, and out of those, 32 projects have been selected to be funded by members of their community, totalling £31,500, to be delivered from now until the end of July 2026 – we’re excited to see them in action! Watch this space for more updates on projects as they happen.
