Cancer Awareness Champions
The Royal Borough of Greenwich Public Health have a new exciting volunteering role, ‘Cancer Awareness Champion’. A role that is part of a wider Community Champions programme focused around Health and Wellbeing and specific health topics.
If you have an interest or want to learn more about improving health and volunteering in community health, more specifically around raising the awareness of cancer signs and symptoms and spreading the word about the importance of cancer screening, this is the role for you.
This is a role where you can gain skills and knowledge and put them into practice in community settings. Recruiting now for the New Year 2026.
What is a Community Champion?
Many of you may already be signed up to our Community Champions programme, but to those who aren’t, Community Champions are a constantly growing network of over 700 people who receive key health and wellbeing information once a week, and share this with their friends, families, neighbours and networks. This ensures that as many people as possible in the borough have access to the same information, support and services. Sign up to be a Community Champion here.
What is a Cancer Awareness Champion Volunteer?
Cancer Awareness Community Champions Volunteers role are Community Champions with specific training and knowledge in specialised areas of Health and Well-being (in this case, Cancer Awareness).
Cancer Awareness Champions volunteers use their skills and knowledge to raise awareness of key health issues, their prevention and identification and connect people with information and services.
What does being a Cancer Awareness Champion Involve?
A Cancer Awareness Champion will volunteer with, and be part of Public Health’s work in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, in engaging with communities so that everyone has important information and access to health improvement services and or activities around cancer awareness, signs, symptoms and screening.
As a Cancer Awareness Champion, you will be provided with information and training around cancer and will volunteer at events, talks, visiting groups to talk to people about this key information.
