Children and young people with additional needs

Children and young people with additional needs may find the current uncertainty around the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak particularly difficult. Their increased stress may lead to a change in their behaviours and their mental health.

If your child or young person has a learning disability  Mencap has helpful information including some easy read materials about coronavirus.  Looking after your feelings and body easy read may also be useful. 

If your child or young person has autism the National Autistic Society or contact the Autism Helpline on 0808 800 4104 for further advice. Resources for families who have children with ASD can also be found here.

If your child or young person has a physical disability that means that they are on the shielding list then Government information, including an easy read guide and in different languages can be found here

If your child or young person is a carer or could potentially become one in this situation, plan ahead with them what to do if you become unwell, including contact details for others who can step in and support them.
