Diabetes

Anyone can get Type 2 diabetes. But, being over 40 years old, being overweight or having a relative with it can increase our risk.

The good news is that there are steps you can take to lower your risk of diabetes:

You don’t have to do this all at once or even by yourself. Greenwich offers lots of support.

If you are at increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, your GP may refer you to Healthier You, the free NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. It’s designed to provide support to reduce your risk through:

  • personalised support
  • education on healthy eating and lifestyle
  • help to lose weight and physical exercise programmes

If you are at risk and registered with a Greenwich GP, your doctor can refer you to Healthier You, or to Live Well Greenwich for more general signposting and support around eating well, moving more and losing weight.
